Local Transports

Local bus services, boarding in the main square, take passengers every 30 minutes to Como Town Centre (40' ride) and to the nearest railway station (Lomazzo) for journeys to Milan.
There is a 15 minutes walk from the house to the town of Appiano, but you are welcome to hire one of our bicycles.
For those who love being independent and are planning to visit a wider area, we recommand to hire a car directly at Milan Malpensa Airport (40 minutes drive to Appiano).

Courses & Workshops

COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

At Ca’ Del Sole we aim to offer a wide range of leisure short courses and three-hour workshops run by local tutors and guest artists.
Under their guidance you will learn new skills and have the chance to unleash your creativity, while creating some unique crafts or pieces of art.

· STAINED GLASS: craft your own unique stained glass panel or suncatcher using traditional leaded or Tiffany techniques (15 hour course)
· JEWELLERY MAKING: Make silver and copper earrings, while learning the basics of jewellery design. Take home lots of earrings from this fun class (3 hour workshop)
· JEWELLERY MAKEOVER: Bring your old, tired, broken and outdated jewellery and learn to re-size, repair and redesign using contemporary materials and techniques (3 hour workshop)
· ELEMENTS OF INTERIOR DESIGN: Learn how to combine colours to create successful colour schemes; how to make mood and sample boards; how to give your rooms a quick and inexpensive makeover; get inspired by the free resource sites available on the net (12 hour course)
· PRACTICAL ITALIAN: A 15 hour course in basic Italian, covering the key language you will need during a short stay abroad
· WATERCOLOUR PAINTING (Veiling technique): In veil painting we apply very soft subtle colours in layers that have to dry in between each application of paint. So it’s a very slow, quiet process and there’s a lot of waiting involved. It makes you hold back, and take stock. The colour can build up and become gradually quite strong, but it retains a wonderful luminosity, while revealing every stroke (6 hour workshop)
· ITALIAN COOKING: Learn how to cook delicious meals with these hands-on evening classes. Ingredients need to be purchased by participants from local shops and food will be consumed at dinner time. A recipe book is included in the cost of the course (15 hour course)
· ETHNIC DANCE: Learn and enjoy dances and music of many countries from around the world. Ethnic and Folk Dancing is a great social mixer and a great workout( 10 hour course)
· SCRAPBOOKS: You don't have to be an artistic person to start scrapbooking. What you need is a desire to become the memory keeper of your special occasions and favourite everyday moments. With digital cameras and technology getting more advanced and commonplace, taking thousands of photos becomes a reality for many of us. Learn how to find a way to record their stories, preserve their memories, and have a slice of the scrapping fun too. Get to know about free resources in the Internet (10 hour course)
· BOOK MAKING: There is something both calming and energizing about making books with our own hands. As we fill our simple books with content, we can tell our stories, preserve our memories and express our feelings (10 hour course)
· PAPER MAKING: Learn how to make hand-made paper and how to use it for making special cards and creative projects (6 hour workshop)

3. Tue: 9.30-12.30/15-17 – Jewellery making workshop

4. Wed: 9.30-12.30/15-17 – Stained glass workshop

5. Thu: 9.30-12.30/15-17 – Watercolour workshop

6. Fri: 9.30-12.30/15-17 – Elements of Interior Design Workshop

7. Sat: Sightseeing in Como

Evening activities: We can have fun together learning some easy dances from the world or participating to some dancing events in the area.

NB. Alternatively, participants can opt for language tuitions (Italian or Conversational English for speakers of other languages) in addition to some art workshops.

Additional weeks:

An additional week to explore the beautiful area or simply chill out at the local swimming centre can be booked for a flat rate (accommodation in B&B).
